7 Reasons to Adopt a Senior Pet

Oct 6 • 1 minute read

When it comes to adding a new member to your family there are quite a few variables to consider.  Things like a pet’s size, temperament, age, and training all play a part in helping find the right pet for you and your family.  Most of the time, when the consideration of adding a new 4-legged family member arises the first thought goes immediately to those adorable puppies and kittens.  Let’s face it, it can be hard to resist such an tiny bundle of cuddly cuteness.  But I want you to take a moment to consider a groups of pets that often get over looked. There are many benefits to older pet, and since Seniors start at 7 here are 7 reasons why senior pets are the best kept secret!

  1. Senior pets already have experience living in a home with people.  You don’t have to worry about house training, litterbox training or them scratching or chewing up the furniture.

  2. Senior pets have already grown into their personality.  When you adopt a senior pet you will know immediately of  they will be right for your family.  No surprises!

  3. Most seniors are less active and more apt to sleeping throughout the day making the excellent snuggle buddies.

  4. A senior pet is already gull grown, so you know from the start how much pet you will be getting.

  5. Senior pets have seen it all, so you don’t have to worry about the knocking over the pictures on the mantle, chewing you new shoes or destroying the Christmas tree.

  6. The initial expense of adopting a senior pet is generally much less since most senior pets are usually spay or neutered and may already be up to date on vaccines.

  7. Senior pets are less likely to be adopted than a puppy or kitten so when you do adopt a senior pet you are quite literally saving a life!

There is something truly special about living with a senior pet.  There is a deeper relationship that is hard to describe, but well worth the effort.
